Kevin Godley and Lol Crème were former members of 10cc but started releasing albums as duo after they split from the band. It was during this time that they stated directing videos both for themselves and for other artists.
The pair had a very successful career as music directors and are well known for directing music videos for others such as “Every breath you take” by The Police, “Girls on Film” by Duran Duran and “If You love Somebody Set Them Free” by Sting. One of their best known videos is one for their own song “Cry.”
The music Videos directed by Godley and Creme were very well received by critics. “Cry” was also nominated for a MTV music video award for “best concept video”, “video of the year” and “viewers choice” but lost out two of them to A-Ha “Take On Me“ and the other to Dire Straits “Money for Nothing.”
Godley and Creme do not have a specific visual style because they use a vast number of different styles in the large number of videos they have made although a lot of their videos have simple but effective concepts.
Although for my video I will not draw large inspiration form their videos the changing faces in “Cry” has inspired a small part of my video.
